The Old Bakery
Freshford

The Old Bakery was purchased by the Parish Church for
restoration and conversion into Church Rooms. In spite of a
small enclosed site, accommodation includes two meeting
rooms, hall and staircase, kitchen, toilets and stores.

Building work included the rebuilding of the collapsed roof,
wall, and the front elevation where most frost attack had
destroyed Bath stone ashlar masonry. Gable ends were
provided with sash windows to provide light and interest to
an otherwise plain appearance.

The outside entrance features an elliptical curved archway
with iron gates designed to reflect the origins of the building.

The project was funded by local contribution, the Church
Diocese, English Heritage and Wansdyke and Avon
Councils.

Restoration of the Old Bakery has provided the Church with
much needed meeting rooms and rescued a derelict building
within the conservation area.
